This is what I get for talking up my games so much!

Life@ currently has 16 of 25 people signed up, which is respectable but doesn't hold a candle to Dark Line's reception. (I must admit, though, the people who are signed up already? Good LARPers, and very pretty.)

Tonight at 8 has only one signup so far! Luckily, I know for a fact that folk who missed it last year want to play this time around. Moreover, it's a second run and therefore will have a chunk of its potential audience gone.

Anyway, I am still confident that both games will get snapped up in due time. All of the people who sprinted toward Leash will be freed up for the second round ;) (thank fuck my games were not across from it.)

National Drunken Writing Night is upon us.

It's simple:

Drink, then write. Then show us what you wrote.

Write fiction. Blog. Write about something that happened to you. Rant. Compose poetry. Anything. Just drink first. Get nice and buzzy (at the very least) then write, then post your writing online.

Since I work very early on Friday, I'll be starting to drink and write early so I can conk out early. I'll count on the rest of you to keep things up after I'm unconscious.

An Intercon Draws Near!

Hey everybody!

Intercon J signups are almost upon us -- 1st game signup is on November 4th (the day after tomorrow) at 7pm.

If you don't have much experience LARPing, this is a great place to start. I will be running two games: arachne8x and I will be running Tonight at 8, our romantic comedy hijinks LARP, on Friday night. On Saturday afternoon, I'll be running Life at the Securemarket, the LARP loosely based on the novel Tales from the Securemarket, which ... I also wrote. Also, this is not a boast, it is sound, fact-based advice: If you want to play in them, sign up early for my games. They fill up really fast.

Honestly, Life@'s slot is fantastic. I don't recognize any of the names I'm across from, which I suspect means that a lot of the people who'll really want to play in Life@ will have no other game tempting them away. :3

Not to be too specific, but I know what MY first signup will be, hazliya. This reminds me... um, would somebody be willing to sign in and sign up for me on Wednesday? I won't be able to get near a computer until 9pm, and I don't want to risk hitting a full game.

So, all that aside, I have some Requests Concerning Life@.

I am going to need a Floor GM and possibly an AGM too. I'm running a 25-person game and I cannot do it by myself. Helpful skills are, in order of importance:
Previous experience as a LARP GM or AGM.
Patience and a cool head.
Getting and holding the attention of multiple people.
Interest in and/or knowledge of the Age of Corporations / Tales from the Securemarket.

My primary floor GM will also be helping edit my game (low commitment, I promise. You'll just be looking for inconsistencies and typos). The floor GM will be comped, meaning s/he won't pay for intercon reg.

The AGM will get mad props and maybe a batch of cookies, but will also have a pretty easy job mainly consisting of setup/strike coordination and simple arbitrations.

Comment here if you're interested! :D

Also? Save your Empties for Life@.

When you're done with a cereal box? Collapse it flat, but leave it otherwise intact. When you finish a box of pasta? Do the same. Canned goods? Wash them and keep them. Soda bottles, same.

Basically, I am going to be building a small supermarket and I need all of the CLEAN empties I can get.

Also, if you have a lot of light collapsible shelving, please let me know.

Well, anything alcoholic, and enough of it to get you altered. Doing this one 'in spirit' is all right as support, but not really the same as participation.

What do you write? ANYTHING.

At the time, I missed the holiday. Read about it a few days late. The next year, I missed it again. Four years later, I am ready and no one else is. The holiday seems to have been all but forgotten -- the blog that Eric linked from his own doesn't even exist any more. Balderdash, I say. Balderdash and poppycock and other such words.

I will be there and I will be drinking and I will be writing. It's gonna hurt my paycheck, but them's the breaks.

I hope I'm well by then.
Recently, I was pinged about the fact that I'm not online very often right now.

A fair concern! I should address it at length.

Here's the short version of why, in the meantime:

1) My store is short-staffed and I am being scheduled for lots of long, exhausting shifts and am generally only getting time off on days when I asked for it. Even though this is no more hours than a normal person works, it comes at weird times and leaves me exhausted.

2) Heidi, my little laptop that could, is suffering from meltdown and I'm in the process of migrating files off of her before she dies. Her death is a really bad thing for several reasons, but the main one is that my other two computers tend to be fixed in place, specifically in places that don't let me spend time with hermitgeecko the way Heidi let me do so. Sir Clarion is a desktop machine in my room whose internet connection frequently cuts off, and Hrothgar is a very heavy laptop that tends to live downstairs and isn't so great for long-term typing as he's missing a few keys and doesn't fit on a lap.

I'll type more later, but this is the capsule version of why you haven't seen me online much.

Dancing in September

Okay, so my September is kind of insane. Here's why:

I have just started full-time at Starbucks. I have a lot of hours because we're still a bit short-staffed. This is a good thing, but hard!
I took on a few side jobs before I got the job at Starbucks. They are not jobs of insignificant size, and I am beholden to them.
I am still trying to complete House at Maison du Scary for the end-of-month contest deadline. I find this important because it's the only creative thing currently on my docket.
zomg Rock Band. My drum skills are getting more and more solid, especially now that we've got the Killers album (if you want to see me work up a serious sweat, watch me try to do "Spaceman" on expert). And with the upcoming release of Beatles RB...
New people in my life want time. I want to give them time.
There is at least one significant event every Saturday this month.
As more people offer to help me with the financial aspects of LoB2, I find going to be more and more feasible, but I am still very jittery about asking for a weekend off (and dealing with the financial repercussions of the subsequently reduced hours) ...

So it's not a BAD insane, necessarily. Life is good, but still traveling at a breakneck pace.

So.

Lullaby of Broadway: All That Jazz.

I need to decide whether I'm doing it, and currently I'm leaning toward 'no.'

This is kind of sad, since LoB is really the kind of game I was made for. I sing, I dance, I know a fair bit about musicals. I was even offered the role of Audrey II if I were to cast.

But y'know? I have a lot of reasons to go down to Maryland in the next few months. Each one is expensive and takes me away from work. The City of Glass Threads game is the last game in the initial run. As a former Continuity staff member and primary author, I really feel like I owe Threads my presence. The LARP roast -- since it is all about my ex-roommate, brother-in-fumes and Very Reverend xiombarg -- is really important for me to go to this year, and I can merge that visit with seeing the Revels. Tickets are $10 and the show starts at 9:45.

Second is that my parents will be coming into town. They're not here for enough time for me to hold an open event, really, but if you want to meet them they will be coming with us to the concert on Friday.

If you want to hear excellent world music and to meet my awesome parents and 'little' brother (at 15 years old, he is over six feet tall), come to Johnny D's tomorrow! :)
